This compound is the most important and common form of the alkali lithium.' It is a major flux for higher fired alkaline glazes.'' It is less soluble than other alkaline compounds and produces more durable glazes, since greater amounts of slilica and whiting can be used in combination with it.

The copper blues possible with this compound are very similar to those produced in raw alkaline glazes using soda ash or borax.' It can also be used as an auxiliary flux to bring down the melting point of higher fired stoneware glazes by as much as 2 to 3 cones.' It is possible to substitute Lepidolite for lithium, but the silica content and alumina content must be altered. \n \nThere is no colour sample of this product.
